From Kilindini harbour inland through Nairobi, Malaba/Busia, Kampala, Kigali, Bujumbura and Goma, the Northern Corridor is East Africa’s deepest institutional memory of transit management. NCTTCA sits in Mombasa for a reason: the port sets the tempo, but the corridor is judged inland.

What to watch

One-stop border posts shortened some queues and created new ones. Digital transit instruments help when every border post stays online. Energy interconnectors — including the Ethiopia–Kenya electricity highway — ride beside the road spine and change what ‘corridor’ can mean: not only freight, but power trade.

Tests the House keeps asking

  • Are OSBP dwell times published as comparable time series?
  • Does cargo data travel with the truck past the first national interface?
  • Do informal traders appear in facilitation design, or only in enforcement?
