Corridor dossier
Abidjan–Lagos
West Africa’s coastal megacity chain — the densest corridor of people and informal trade on the continent.
Abidjan, Accra, Lomé, Cotonou, Lagos — a chain of coastal economies where the corridor is already alive before the dual carriageway is finished. Formal consignments and informal trade share the same asphalt and different fates at the border.
ECOWAS is one of the eight REC building blocks of AfCFTA. That matters here because coastal integration is not waiting for continental signatures; it is waiting for borders that treat time poverty as a tariff and harassment as a barrier.
Tests the House keeps asking
- Does highway ambition protect or displace informal traders?
- Are OSBPs reducing time poverty for women traders?
- Can digital systems see coastal trade without criminalising it?
